ELM327 compatible?
Wat goedkope ELM327-dongles betekenen met “v1.5”, “v2.1”, etc.

De meeste goedkope OBDII-scanners zijn niet voorzien van een originele ELM-chip.

• Het zijn microcontrollers met reverse-engineered firmware die maar een subset van de commando’s implementeert.
• “V1.5” is geen echte ELM-versie, maar meestal een stabiele kloonfirmware gebaseerd op v1.2/v1.3.
• “V2.1” is vaak een nóg verder uitgeklede kloon; ironisch genoeg is “v2.1” op goedkope printjes meestal minder compatibel (werkt vaak niet met oudere auto’s).
• Stickers met “v2.2” zijn meestal marketing: bijna niemand verkoopt echte v2.2-chips; die zijn veel duurder.

Kortom:

Chinese klonen v1.5 = meest stabiele keuze voor basic OBDII-diagnose; vaak beter dan hun zogenaamde “v2.1”.

Originele ELM327 v2.2 = dure chip (~$20-30), uitgebreide commando’s, bewezen kwaliteit.
